This category comprises people born in Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, North and South Korea, Laos, Mongolia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Almost 120,000 people born in these states were in Britain in 2001 with sizeable clusters found in central London as well as more outlying areas of the capital such as Woolwich, Richmond and Kingston.
Because this is such a diverse range of nationalities, the figures for this region should be treated with caution as they give no deeper indication of more localised trends.
