A third of the 49,000 people born in Malaysia living in Britain were resident in London according to the 2001 Census.
Some smaller clusters of people born in the country are found outside London, principally in the South East - especially Portsmouth - plus Sheffield, Leeds, and areas of Manchester.
Malaysia itself is ethnically diverse, with ethnic Chinese comprising the second largest group in the country.
It is this group that predominantly makes up the Malaysian-born population in Britain, which explains why the clusters appear in similar places to people born in China or Hong Kong.
