Finland's entry into the European Union in 1995 meant its citizens gained rights under the free market to move more easily around Europe.
Over the 10 years prior to 2001 there was a doubling of the number of Finland-born people living in Britain up to about 11,000.
Most of the growth was in London and the South East, the areas of settlement suggesting that the incomers were mostly working in the business community.
Outside of London and the South East, only three areas - those near to Hull, Glasgow and Edinburgh universities - show small clusters of Finland-born people.
