Big names from both sides of the Atlantic took centre stage on the second day of T in the Park as organisers hailed the event a major success.

Scotland's biggest music festival attracted another sell-out crowd of more than 50,000 people on Sunday.

The two-day festival closed with a 90-minute set from dance duo the Chemical Brothers.

Thousands of fans were thrilled by a range of their hits from the last decade as the sun went down over the former airfield at Balado, near Kinross.

Oasis headlined on Saturday

The festival will partly be remembered for the great weather as much as the bands.

Earlier in the day Swedish band The Hives, former Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown and the Doves entertained revellers.

Rockers Green Day put in an energetic performance on the main stage which concluded with their instruments being trashed as fans cheered.

They were followed by the Foo Fighters who concluded their set with a stunning firework display.

34 arrests

Headliners Oasis were the big draw on the first day, performing a well-received set which combined tracks from their new album Heathen Chemistry with some older favourites.

Primal Scream, Idlewild, No Doubt, Starsailor, Gomez, Basement Jaxx and Badly Drawn Boy were among the other acts performing on Saturday.

Promoter Geoff Ellis said he was delighted with the second day, after the success of the first.

"Saturday was going to be a hard act to follow, but the weather has held out, the bands have been fantastic across all stages and there is a real party atmosphere across the site."

Tayside Police said they had made 34 arrests, mostly for drug-related offences, minor thefts and assaults.

'Great bunch of people'

"These figures are down quite dramatically," said Chief Inspector Jim Cameron.

"The demeanour of the crowd is great and there is a very relaxed atmosphere throughout the site thanks to a combination of good weather, professional and responsible organisation and an audience who are now familiar with the high standards set by this event.

"We have encountered a small number of incidents but the rule is that we have a great bunch of people and a great environment.

"It is a pleasure for us to be involved in such a positive event."

A total of 105,000 people were attending the sell-out event over the two days, making it the biggest yet staged at Balado.
