Oasis star Noel Gallagher made a surprise appearance at Scotland's biggest music festival T in the Park at Balado, near Kinross.

He joined the latest signing to his record label, Proud Mary, on stage.

Thousands of revellers enjoyed the second and final day of the event despite the poor weather conditions.

Texas closed the festival before a sell-out 50,000 crowd on the disused airfield.

Brit Award winners Coldplay, US maverick Beck and Toploader also played the main stage.

Rain failed to dampen last year's festival
Gallagher joined former Jam frontman Paul Weller on stage for the final two songs of his set.

He was warmly welcomed by the crowd as he joined Weller to play The Jam classics That's Entertainment, and A Town Called Malice.

Welsh super group the Stereophonics were the final act to appear on the main stage on Saturday and were preceded by David Gray.

Organisers DF Concerts confirmed the event, featuring more than 100 bands across seven stages over the weekend, has been a 100,000 sell-out over both days.

Rain had been steadily falling since Saturday, but an event spokesman said conditions were not too bad and certainly not dampening the revellers' spirits.

Tayside Police made more than 30 arrests at the festival. Some people arrested were believed to have come from the London area - and were charged with dealing in class A drugs.

They were held in police custody and were due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday.

A police spokesman said that in the main everyone had been well behaved.

T in the Park organiser Stuart Clumpas said the perennial success of the two-day music festival was down to the passion of music fans north of the Border.

He said: "I'm proud and a bit gobsmacked that T in the Park has reached its eighth successive year and continues to go from strength to strength.

"The festive really has become part of Scotland's modern heritage, and is continuing to attract new music fans every year, as well as some of the biggest and best names in the music industry."

Mr Clumpas said the unique atmosphere generated by Scots audiences always warmed the hearts of those bands that performed in Scotland.

"We know, and most of the T in the Park bands agree, that the success of the event is testament to the great Scottish music fans who are unquestionably the best audience in the world and who turn out every year for the best party of the summer," he said.
