IRELAND
Colm Toibin Colm Tóibín
(1st transmission 24.12.01)
Born in Ireland in 1955 Colm Tóibín is the author of four novels, The South, The Heather Blazing, The Story of the Night and The Blackwater Lightship.


FRANCE / BRITAIN
Michèle Roberts Michèle Roberts
(1st transmission 25.12.01)
Michèle Roberts is half French and half English. She is the author of ten novels and three collections of poetry, as well as short stories and one of essays.


DENMARK
Carsten Jensen Carsten Jensen
(1st transmission 26.12.01)
Carsten Jensen first made his name as a controversial journalist on the newspapers Politiken and Det Fri Aktuelt. He has published two novels, Cannibal Communion 1988 and Earth in the Mouth 1991.


LUXEMBOURG
Nico Helminger Nico Helminger
(1st transmission 27.12.01)
Born in Differdingen in Luxembourg in 1953. Nico Helminger is a poet and playwright who writes in German and Luxembourgish.


POLAND
Antoni Libera Antoni Libera
(1st transmission 28.12.01)
Antoni Libera is a Polish writer, translator and stage director, who has translated, all Samuel Beckett's plays into Polish and directed many of them. In 1998 he published his first novel Madame.


GERMANY
Peter Schneider Peter Schneider
(1st transmission 31.12.01)
Peter Schneider is known as an astute chronicler of Berlin and the German psyche. His books include The Wall Jumper and the novel Eduard's Homecoming.


SPAIN
Manuel Rivas Manuel Rivas
(1st transmission 01.01.02)
Born in La Coruüa, Spain in 1957, Manuel Rivas won the Critics' Prize for his book of short stories A Million Cows (1990), which, like all of his work, is originally written in Galician.
