Poets Kama Sywor Kamanda and Lebogang Mashile from www.ukzn.ac.za/cca

Over 30 poets and artists gathered in Durban, South Africa last week, to participate in the 10th Poetry Africa festival organised by the University of Kwa Zulu Natal's Centre for Creative Arts.

We invited DR Congo's Kama Sywor Kamanda and South Africa's Lebogang Mashile, two of the participating poets, on to the programme to discuss their poetry and what inspires them to write.

You hear Lebogang Mashile first, explaining to Audrey Brown how she started writing poetry.

Audrey continues by asking whether the intensely personal nature of writing poetry, describing one's innermost thoughts and emotions, leaves the poets with any sense of raw vulnerability?
