Tiken Jah Fakoly's angry "Outburst"

"Outburst"
"Coupe de Gueule!", the latest album from Ivorian reggae star Tiken Jah Fakoly is the work of an angry man.

He is angry at the the state of his homeland, Ivory Coast; angry at the incumbent African leaders that leaden the continent's chances of progress; angry at the West whose benevolence he sees as linked to its own self-interest.

But the recording's themes are personal too.

Tiken Jah is from the north of Ivory Coast, which has been held by the New Forces since 2002.

The conflict in the divided country has stolen the lives of people close to him and driven him into exile in neighbouring Mali.

The lyrics and outspokenness that have brought him international attention and acclaim have also needled the supporters of President Laurent Gbagbo and he feels his security at home is not assured.

Currently, he is touring southern Africa in support of his new album, "Coupe de Gueule!" ("Outburst" in English).

Raphael Tenthani went to meet him when he performed in Malawi.
