are there any theories about what its use was as being so large it was a massive undertaking for its time

Well, lots of tunnels have been excavated, but, is dirt all you have seen?No bones? No artifacts?Have x-ray investigations taken place?I am interested because I was born in Swindon in 1930 and lived there for some years. I even came back to see Swindon again when I was in the Royal Air force in the late forties.
