Chris Fawkes originally comes from Marple, near Stockport. Having completed his schooling locally, he travelled across the Pennines to study Geography at Sheffield University.
Following university, Chris took a year out travelling around the world. Highlights of this adventure include white water rafting down Nepal's Kali Gandaki river, a tandem parachute over New Zealand's Lake Wanaka and welcoming the new millennium in Sydney.
Chris joined the Met Office in 2001 and is a fully qualified forecaster, having completed his Met Office forecaster qualifications in 2004.
He has spent most of his career at the BBC but has also spent a little time forecasting for the RAF and British Army.
Away from work, Chris is a keen swimmer. In 2012 he won the gold medal for his age group in the Hampshire County Masters 50m and 100m freestyle.
Chris is also a big fan of skiing and looks forward to heading to the Alps during winter. Chris, along with colleagues John Hammond and Sarah Keith-Lucas, once skied in Surrey taking advantage of the huge snowfall that hit southern England during January 2010.
