Only a fortnight ago, thousands of people queued overnight at Sunderland Civic Centre to get their hands on a ticket for Radio 1’s Big Weekend at Herrington Country Park.
So when the heavens opened on the first day of the event, it’s fair to say that a few rain showers wasn’t going to dampen the spirits of 15,000 music fans.

The acts were just as keen to be there, with the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl cancelling all other commitments to recover from laryngitis in time for their performance.
Saturday’s main stage line-up included, The Chemical Brothers, Foo Fighters, Natalie Imbruglia, Rooster and unsigned band, Battle.
The event was hosted by Radio 1 DJs and the station has broadcast shows from the site.

only one problem with the whole weekend was the long wait and the bass was way too loud... but other than that the whole show was amazing, Kasabian and Foo Fighters made my day (see you in Leeds!), standing in the hail was randomly funny... Battle's lead singer looks like my chemistry teacher, which is kinda scary was a brilliant day, wish I could've been there for the sunday!

Saturady was a really good day and night time out!! Kasabian were clearly the best for us and we hope radio one come back to sunny sunderland next year!! counting the days down!!!

Yay we were there! It was awesome. Foos were awesome as ever. The mud and hail was awesome, the VIP competition winners queue was awesome, the Radio 1 DJ's were awesome and even the big tents that looked like circus tents were awesome too! Well to sum up... awesome!!?! Hehe :p Xx

Loved kasabian to start with, but they excelled all expectations and were FANTASTIC!!!! Chemicals, & Foo Fighters also great.Athlete were dissapointing to say the least,they just didn't seem that arsed!!Could have done without the chavs but you cant have it all! Now have very dodgy stomach - not sure if its alcohol related or from a dodgy toilet! Thanks a lot to the bloke dressed as a gladiator who covered me with his cloak while I took a pee, and then ran off leaving me exposed to the masses - good times! Hello to Richard our Southern Mate - see we can party harder up here x Massive 'thank you' to Radio 1, have paid before to see gigs not half as good, please return soon!

won tickets from the Foo's! Drove for 300miles, had to get an exhaust hole patched up, was 4 hours late, then slept in a car park. But it was worth it just to see Foo Fighters and Chemical Brothers! Hows that for Rock & Roll?1

it was an awesome day dispite the strange north east weather. kasabian were unbelievable. the best live set i have seen. it's good to see natalie is back and looking even better than ever. KT was very good live. the crowd got well behand her. rooster rocked the crowd. the foos had a good stage performance with an up beat crowd and i was well impressed by Battle. reminded me of the Cure back in the day. athlete lacked a bit of excitement on stage. the chemical brothers where rocken. never heard so much base in my life. my ears still haven't recovered. can't wait to go to my next festival this summer. in summery, kasabian were the best of the day and natalie is still hot. worth getting wet and muddy for.
