This is your chance to be a big shot record producer! Watch, listen and help DJ Dawnus choose his lyrics on the mixing desk so that he gets to the top of the charts.
How to playChoose a theme, then take on the role of a record producer and watch Welsh sentences as they scroll across the screen. Decide which button on the DJ's mixing desk you should click in order to place the key words into one of the categories provided. The more you get right, the more records DJ Dawnus sells!
You can listen to the sentences in full at the end of the game, and check the correct answers by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the screen. The sentences play in a randomised order each time.
Curriculum linksThis game will develop reading skills, and using inferential questions, it encourages children to associate vocabulary from one theme with that of another. The language practised in this game is based on the following themes:
- Lliwiau (Colours) + everyday items
- Tywydd (Weather) + temperature
- Siopa (Shopping) + goods
- Dathlu (Celebrations) and festivals + seasons
Although this activity is suitable for 7-11 year old learners of Welsh Second Language at Key Stage 2 level, the language and concept of inferential questions is more suited to 9-11 year old learners.
Lesson ideaDJ Dawnus can be used independently or as a classroom activity. Ensure that the students have learnt the relevant vocabulary that will be used in the game. A list of some of the words used in the game is listed below.
Here are some suggestions for further activities based on the themes from the game:
Lliwiau: Get the students to write out statements to the questions asked in the game, eg Mae'r tomato yn goch; Mae'r igwana yn wyrdd; Mae'r haul yn felyn etc.
Tywydd: Practise using achos by asking the students to link the themes in sentences, eg Mae dad yn gwisgo sgarff achos mae hi'n oer; Roedd Anna yn gwisgo sbectol achos roedd hi'n boeth; Bydd Owain yn prynu cennin pedr achos mae hi'n ddydd Gŵyl Dewi etc.
Siopa: Get the students to write a short paragraph about a shopping trip, adapting the sentences they have learnt in the game.
Dathlu: Get the students to create a Welsh calendar on the computer, noting all the new festivals and celebrations they have learnt in the game, as well as ones with which they are already accustomed.
