The Angel shows Eddie he is home

Angel 'welcomes me home'

BBC Tyne has been running a project called Divine Art to find out which pieces of art inspire people spiritually. Eddie Allison chose the Angel of the North.

"I think the main thing I like about the Angel is the way it is always there to greet me and let me know I am home again.

"I always feel that those magnificent open wings are embracing me when I travel back into the region.

It also reminds Eddie of industrial heritage.

"The other important thing it reminds me of is the great industrial heritage I have grown up with and is sadly disappearing."

Eddie took a series of pictures of the Angel in January 2007 and some of them are used to illustrate this article.

He said: "The thing I wanted to do was to take pictures of it which are a little different to what I normally see and take."
