Here's a tasty and fun creation you can make this Christmas.
Early years specialist Sophie David shows us how to make some biscuits you can decorate yourself at home with the family, great as a present or fun activity!
Welcome to the Christmas series.
Today we are making a paint-your-own Christmas cookie. It's very, very simple, you've got some coloured sweets, and then some cut out Christmas cookies.
You simply add water and paint, and you end up with some beautiful decorated biscuits.
This is great for a Christmas gift, or a craft in the build-up to Christmas.
To make your biscuits simply add butter, vanilla, sugar, and flour, and give it a good mix. And then cut out your biscuits - we always put them in the fridge to set just a little bit before baking, it means they don't spread.
And then to make my little paint palette, I simply moulded a cookie and then rolled out the fondant to put on top. We stuck the fondant on top and then added the coloured sweets, and there you are!
Ready to go, paint-your-own biscuits.
Ingredients
150g butter
75g caster sugar
225g plain flour
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
White fondant icing
Coloured chocolate sweets
You will need
Festive cookie cutters
Paintbrush (food-safe or new)
Rolling pin
Straw or skewer
Water in a small pot
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
2. Mix together butter and sugar in a bowl until fluffy.
3. Stir in the flour and vanilla until a soft dough forms.
4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1cm thick.
5. Use Christmas cookie cutters to form shapes. Cut a circle of dough and mould it into a palette shape.
6. Using your finger, press six or seven dimples into the palette. Use a straw or skewer to make a small hole at the top.
7. Place the biscuits in the fridge for 30 minutes.
8. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes, until just golden.
9. Cool completely on a wire rack.
10. Once cool, add the white fondant to the biscuits and the chocolate sweets to the palette.
11. Using a paintbrush and a little water paint the rest of your biscuits by dabbing your wet brush on the different coloured sweets.
