Building blocks are great fun for you and your baby to explore and play with together.
Let your baby lead the play. They might hold the blocks, bang them together, or throw them.
Following their lead lets your baby know they can make their own decisions.
Try building a tower. Talk to your baby and describe what you're doing. This helps them link words with actions.
Let your baby knock the tower over. This shows them that their actions have an effect.
Doing this again and again also teaches your baby how to take turns.
You build it up and they'll knock it right down!
The Baby Club’s Nigel Clarke encourages parents and carers to explore toy building blocks with babies.
Building and knocking down blocks is a great chance to talk to baby, but also teaches them about how they can affect the world around them.
