INSTRUCTOR:OK, the move we're going to give you guys now is called Happy Feet. What you're going to do is you're going to take both of your feet, you're going to cross them like so.
INSTRUCTOR:Uncross. Do that again.
INSTRUCTOR:Just like that. So you're doing it twice. From there, you're going to jump to your left, jump with your feet back in the middle, then jump to the right, jump your feet back into the middle.
INSTRUCTOR:Basically, you're doing this, here, jump back into the middle, out to the right, jump back into the middle.
INSTRUCTOR:From there, you're going to jump on both your heels forwards, using your body to help you get that move as well.
INSTRUCTOR:So you're going to rock your body forwards, jumping on your heels here, rock your body back, jump on the balls of your feet. Do that again, jumping forwards then jumping back. Onto the heels then onto the feet. Then to finish it, back with the Criss-Cross.
INSTRUCTOR:OK, that's your Happy Feet.
Video summary
Turbo offers a breakdown of the technique called 'happy feet', used in house dance.
Turbo demonstrates the move slowly with clear directions, breaking down each of the four steps in the combination.
He also shows the body moving forward and back in relation to the feet.
The full combination is then performed at a very fast speed to the music a further four times.
This clip is from the BBC series, Street Dance Masterclass.
Teacher Notes
The movement should be taught very slowly, step by step.
It can then be rehearsed with speed gradually building up. It's a great 'show piece' to add to a street dance routine, that pupils can choreograph themselves.
Exploring the art of street dance, this series will be relevant for teaching physical education and dance at primary level.
