BREAGHA:I am the champion, I am the champion.
RADHA:Hello Breagha. What happened at the sports day then?
BREAGHA:I won! Look at my rosette.
RADHA:Well done, it’s gorgeous! Oh, hello Ben.
BEN:Hello Radha.
RADHA:Have you seen Breagha's lovely rosette? Hasn’t she done well? How are you feeling today Ben?
BEN:I just wish I had that. I wanted to win it. It's not fair! What am I feeling?
RADHA:I think what you're feeling is 'envious'.
BEN:Envious? What's that?
RADHA:'Have you ever felt like you wanted something someone else had?' 'Or felt like you wanted to be as good as somebody else at something? 'This feeling is envy. 'You are feeling envious.'
BEN:Yes. That’s what I'm feeling, envious. I wish I had Breagha's rosette.
BREAGHA:Oh but I won it. It's mine.
RADHA:That's right Breagha, but Ben wishes he had won it. He's envious of your rosette.
BEN:Can I touch it?
BREAGHA:Of course you can.
BEN:Oh, I'm feeling more envious now!
RADHA:Oh dear it's not a very nice feeling is it? But don’t worry, lots of people feel like that sometimes. Why don’t you tell us more about what happened?
BEN:You mean, tell you about sports day?
BREAGHA:Oh yes go on Ben.
BEN:OK.
BEN:'At the sports day, we had a running race. 'I love running. 'So I was really excited!'
BOTH:Good luck.
ANNOUNCER:On your marks, get set… Go!
SPECTATOR:Come on Ben.
BEN:'I ran, as fast as I could. 'And I was catching up. 'But then… 'I tripped up on a silly stone! 'I could have won. 'I tried my best… 'But instead, Breagha won.'
ANNOUNCER:And the winner is Breagha!
2900:02:25:06 00:02:30:20BEN:'And Breagha got a red rosette. 'I just really, really wanted that rosette.'
3000:02:33:15 00:02:38:24RADHA:It can be hard if someone's got something that you want. Breagha's really good at running isn't she?
BEN:Yes she is.
BREAGHA:Oh, but think of all the things you're good at Ben. Like, thinking up stories and drawing.
BEN:Oh and making a mess!
RADHA:That’s right Breagha, remember what you're good at too. Why don’t we ask our feelings friends to join us? Hello Holly and Lisa.
CHILDREN:Hello!
BOTH:Hello!
RADHA:If your feeling envious it can really help to remember what your good at. I'm good at… Climbing!
BREAGHA:I'm good at singing.
La la laaa
RADHA:What about you Holly?
HOLLY:I'm good at swimming.
BEN:And I'm good at painting.
RADHA:What about you Lisa?
LISA:I'm good at dancing.
BEN:Wow! And umm, well done for winning today Breagha.
RADHA:Yes Ben. It's really good to say well done to people when they do well.
RADHA:Do you feel better now?
BEN:Yes I do! Thank you Radha. I feel much better now. And thank you feelings friends for your help too.
You're welcome.
RADHA:Thank you.

Teacher Notes
You could ask your class to share times when the have felt envious of someone else. How did it make them feel?
They could then all share something they are good at as a way of demonstrating that we all have special skills.
You could also set them the task of saying 'well done' to someone over the coming days when they do something well.
This clip is relevant for use with children at Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Scotland.
It is also suitable for teaching PSHE at KS1 and Health and Wellbeing at Early and 1st Level.
