Ecko is a psychometrist: this power lets him receive glimpses of an object's history. The past events and people that have encountered the objects are imprinted on them and Ecko is able to read them.
As a child Ecko saw many people, including his own family, perish in the Great Flood of 2017. He recognises Mako's role in saving his life and although honest and loyal, he can appear to be unapproachable and obsessive at times.
Both of Soma's parents died when she was very young, even before the Great Flood, and she grew up in an orphanage. These early experiences made her independent and strong-willed, but also made her distrust authority and made her a natural rebel. Her power is her ability to examine DNA which she does through the taste of blood. Her ability can detect the presence of toxins, foreign matter, the subject's diet and lifestyle, even their origins. But Soma is uncertain whether her power is a gift or a curse and part of her resents Mako for changing her.
Stream is a very different kind of woman to Soma. A shy, bookish child she was rescued by Mako and was given the power to enter the minds of others, including those of the recently dead.
Within these "deadspheres" there are still glimmers of the person left which she can enter and analyse, though the longer the victim's been dead, the more dangerous it is that Stream's own mind will be trapped forever in the empty vaults and echoing chambers of a corpse!
Shift stands slightly apart from the rest of the group, his mocking tone distancing him from them. An only child of an American family living in England Shift saw his parents die in the Flood, not by drowning but murdered at the hands of looters.
His power is that of time manipulation – the ability to move himself and others along the time stream. But the power is hard to control and limited in scope. He needs very specific information before he can even attempt a time step.
