"How many teachers arrived at school this morning to say, thank you God for bringing me to heaven?..."

My name is John Statham and I live in Alsager, South Cheshire. I'm 65 and retired from a teaching career in special education. My current interests are writing - I've had two books of poetry published. I also enjoy travel, digital photography. Oh, and keeping an eye on my grandchildren.

There is a lot of concern about education today, some of it, especially the ludicrous workload put on teachers, is justified. But it is useful to remember occasionally just how many wonderful changes for good have happened in schools over the last 50 years.
