Funky Facts about Uttoxeter

Uttoxeter had the first recorded cricket club in the country

JCB, which makes the famous yellow diggers, is named after JC Bamford, who started the firm from humble beginnings in a garage in Uttoxeter. The family is now one of the richest in Britain.

Apart from JCB, another famous firm associated with the town is Elkes Biscuits.

You'll know a real local, because they will pronounce the name of the town as Utcheter

A ceremony remembering the eighteenth century man of letters, Dr Samuel Johnson, takes place here every September.

The Midlands Grand National has been run at Uttoxeter Racecourse since 1969.

The 'King of The Gypsies', Bartley Gorman, is a local hero.

Anita says the best thing is: The Racecourse, and a walk around the JCB lake in nearby Rocester village where you can feed the ducks!
