French opt for clay
Marat Safin of Russia
Safin is at home on clay
The Davis Cup final between France and Russia will be held indoors on clay.

The match will be played at the Paris Bercy sports hall from 29 November to 1 December.

France beat the United States on the same surface outdoors at Roland Garros in last weekend's semi-final.

Russia booked their place with victory over the United States.

The Bercy hall, which also hosts the Paris Open, has a capacity of about 16,000.

If anything, it should favour Safin
Shamil Tarpishchev
Russia's Davis Cup captain

Marseille, hometown of captain Guy Forget and French number one Sebastien Grosjean, had also been under consideration.

Grosjean won the French Open last year, beating Russia's Yevgeny Kafelnikov in the final.

As host nation, France was allowed to choose the surface but clay will also suit the Russians.

Kafelnikov has a good record on clay, having also won the French Open.

Safin has also won two clay-court tournaments, including the Paris Open.

"I don't think it (clay) will make any major difference in regard to our chances," said Shamil Tarpishchev, Russia's Davis Cup captain.

"If anything, it should favour Safin."
