| Thursday, 1 August, 2002, 01:07 GMT 02:07 UK Henman eases past Blake ![]() Henman was never in danger Tim Henman moved into the third round of the Masters Series in Toronto with a 6-3 6-3 victory over American James Blake. Britain's top player was rarely troubled by the 22-year-old from New York, and he will now meet Wimbledon finalist David Nalbandian from Argentina in the last eight. "I played a really good match," said Henman. "It was probably my best hard court match of the year, and that's good news. "The courts and the balls are about twice as fast as at Wimbledon, and that suits my game. I don't like slow, high bouncing courts." Henman opted to chip and charge Blake's serve and the move bore fruit in the fourth game when he grabbed the vital break. Fourth seed Henman held serve to close out the first set 6-3. The second set followed the pattern of the first, with Henman breaking once to take a 4-3 lead which he converted into a matchwinning opportunity.
Joining the Russian were third seed Tommy Haas and fifth seed Yevgeny Kafelnikov. The major casualties were Australian Open winner and ninth seed Thomas Johansson and eighth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero. Pete Sampras needed to dig deep to beat South Korean qualifier Hyung-Taik Lee. Andy Roddick's tight three-set win over Nicolas Lapentti turned ugly at the end of the match with the Ecudorean accusing Roddick of faking leg cramps. "I am sure he had cramps. But, when you have cramps like he did and you almost fall to the floor, you can't come back and hit an overhead like he did twice, or run for a drop shot like he did," said Lapentti.
