Hewitt fails in Toronto
Felix Mantilla
Mantilla lifted his game after the rain delay

Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt let a one set advantage slip to be dumped out of the Canada Tennis Masters in the first round by Felix Mantilla.

The 21-year-old Australian world number one showed few signs of rust after resting following his Wimbledon triumph in breaking Manitlla twice in the opening set.

But world number 55 hit back to take a 5-4 lead in the second before heavy rain forced a two-hour delay.

When the players returned to the court Mantilla claimed the decisive break to level the match at one set apiece.

Todd Martin
Martin enjoyed some good fortune against Rusedski
In the third set, Hewitt held serve only once as the Spaniard registered his second career win over a world number one.

Britain's Greg Rusedski was knocked out by veteran American Todd Martin.

Rusedski took the first set but eventually went down 3-6 7-6 7-5.

But his compatriot, fourth seed Tim Henman had no such problems, overcoming Spaniard Fernando Vicente 6-4 6-4.

He took decisive breaks of serve in the 10th game of each set to advance.

He will now face American James Blake in the next round after he disposed of Canadian wildcard Simon Larose in straight sets.

Rusedski started brightly in his match and quickly established a 3-0 lead before Martin broke back to make it 3-2. The British number two recovered to break Martin again before closing out the set.

Martin took a 4-1 lead in the second set before Rusedski swept back to level the set at 4-4 and eventually force a tie-break which the American took.

The deciding set went with serve until the 11th game which went Martin's way thanks to a huge slice of luck when the ball landed in after coming off the net cord.

He then closed out the set with ease.

"It came down to one or two points. You need a little bit of luck and he got the luck at the end," said Rusedski.

Martin now faces ninth seed Thomas Johansson who came from a set down to defeat Ivan Ljubicic.

The other big-name casualty was 10th seed Roger Federer who went out to Guillermo Canas.
