Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands aims to sink the Scots on Wednesday - so he can prolong his stay in their country.

But former Celtic midfielder Morten Wieghorst has insisted that there is a lot of young talent coming through that will eventually improve Scotland's fortunes.

Lovenkrands expects to soon begin contract talks with his Scottish Premier League club.

Rangers will be anxious to keep him, especially after his two-goal display in their 4-2 win over Hibernian on Sunday.

"It's been a good start to the season for me and I suppose it's good that my new contact talks are coming up," he said.

"A good performance against Scotland on Wednesday won't harm my chances either.

"I've been talking to my agent after the game and we'll take it from there.

"I don't know when the meeting with the club will be, but I'll find out soon enough."

Lovenkrands' last outing at Hampden saw him score a late winner for Rangers in their dramatic 3-2 Scottish Cup final victory over Celtic last season.

"I obviously have a lot of good memories from Hampden," he said.

"It's a place where I haven't lost yet, but we have a young team and so do Scotland, so the game can go either way.

"But hopefully we can get on top and prove we are a better team."

Wieghorst thought he had played his last game at Hampden when he moved back home to join Brondby.

But, retaining his Glasgow twang, he is back as a late call-up to the Danish squad and has urged the Scottish fans and media to take a longer-term view of manager Vogts' progress.

"I know everyone in Scotland will get football fever once the European qualifiers start.

"But, to be honest, the best thing the fans and media could do would be to write off their chances of getting through them.

"Even if they do miss out then they shouldn't call for the manager's head and they should stick with the younger players coming through.

"If you play the young players in the qualifiers then, even if they get beaten in some games, the experience will stand them in good stead for the next World Cup."
