| Tuesday, 23 July, 2002, 12:53 GMT 13:53 UK Straeuli wants 'clean' game ![]() Rudolf Straeuli wants drug tests before Tri-Nations South Africa coach Rudolf Straeuli has called for all players to be drug-tested before Saturday's Tri-Nations match against Australia. The plea comes after Aussie winger Ben Tune received a banned substance while undergoing treatment for an infected knee, although he is likely to avoid a ban.
Straeuli believes the sport has been tarnished by the episode and says all of his players are willing to be tested. "I believe it would be in the interests of the game if both teams were tested ahead of Saturday's Test," he said. "I would feel more comfortable playing against a team I knew had been cleared of any suspicion." But the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has laughed off Straeuli's suggestion. An ARU spokesman said: "If Rudolf Straeuli wants to stick his hand in his back pocket and pay for it, we'll think about it." |
