| Friday, 29 November, 2002, 11:31 GMT Blyth takes the Whites' helm ![]() Robert Davies regrets the course taken in 1999 Former Swansea and Wales full-back Roger Blyth has succeeded Robert Davies as chairman of Swansea RFC. Blyth's priorities include the successful completion of the club's long-planned move to the Morfa Stadium and the consolidation of the development academy. Davies, who had spent two years in the job, will revert to the role of club treasurer with business partner Mike James, and both have pledged to continue their financial support of the Whites. The outgoing chairman took a shot at the WRU as he left his position, stressing his regret at bringing Swansea back into their fold at the end of the 1998/99 season. In that year, Swansea and Cardiff had played 'rebel' games against English opposition and had planned to lead a move of four or five Welsh clubs into a fully fledged Anglo-Welsh league. "We would have had 2.3m per season instead of 800,000 and top-quality opposition week-in, week-out," Davies told the 'Western Mail.' "Not taking up that option looks a bit sick with all the talks that are going on in Welsh rugby at the moment." |
