Dennis Moran scored a memorable hat-trick to help London Broncos to victory over play-off rivals Widnes at the Halton Stadium.

The win lifts the Broncos into sixth place in the Super League, ahead of the Vikings on points difference.

Moran struck for his first try three minutes before half-time with Widnes holding an 8-2 lead after two scores from centre Adam Hughes.

Widnes stand-off Craig Weston then launched a huge cross-field kick which Vikings winger Jason Demetriou palmed back into play.

But Moran was on hand to pounce on the loose ball and raced 80 metres for a superb try which cut the half-time deficit to 8-6.

London took a grip of the game with two tries in the opening six minutes of the second period.

Winger Rob Jackson went over in the corner and then Jim Dymock finished off a fine break by Moran to touch down.

With Tony Martin landing both conversions, the visitors had a 10-point advantage at 18-8.

And that lead was further increased when Moran grabbed his second try, intercepting Steve Carter's pass to score from 70m.

Widnes rallied briefly when Demetriou touched down Carter's kick, but Moran had the final word.

The scrum-half weaved through the home defence, chipped the ball ahead of full-back Stuart Spruce and then won the race to touch down to round off a superb individual display.
