| |  Thursday, 26 September, 2002, 15:12 GMT 16:12 UK Wembley in pictures  Sir Norman Foster's plans for a new Wembley, unveiled in 1999, have been scaled down and revised  The revised Wembley will cost approximately �750m, and it beat alternative sites in the Midlands to approval  Foster's original plans were scaled down and an on-site hotel and office complex scrapped  The 90,000 capacity stadium can stage athletics through the use of a specially-fitted platform  The project will provide a permanent home for England games, with a huge arch replacing the twin towers  The 133 metre high steel arch will be the largest single span roof structure in the world  A key design feature is the sliding roof that will ensure the pitch receives enough sunlight  When the stadium is completed in 2006 it will form a major landmark on the London skyline | |
