Happy return for Fleury

Theo Fleury scored in his return to Madison Square Garden as Chicago notched up a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers.

The right wing was often embroiled in controversy during his spell in the Big Apple - in 2001 he underwent therapy for substance abuse and behavioural problems.

Eric Daze added three goals and defenceman Nathan Dempsey had a career-high four assists as the Blackhawks dealt the Rangers their fourth straight loss.

Mikael Samuelsson, Petr Nedved and Rico Fata scored for New York.

The home team mustered a season-best 49 shots, including 20 in a frantic third period, at Chicago's Jocelyn Thibault.

They were missing captain Mark Messier because of a stiff neck and lost defenceman Sylvain Lefebvre in the second period when he broke his right index finger.

Stars blanked

Jason Allison and Adam Deadmarsh each had a goal and two assists as Los Angeles handed Dallas their first home defeat in regulation this season, winning 3-0.

Jamie Storr got his 14th career shut-out, and Ziggy Palffy scored the other goal as the Kings blanked the Stars for the second time in as many meetings this season.

Storr, making his sixth appearance of the season, made 22 saves.

Los Angeles now has a shut-out streak of 120 minutes, 19 seconds.

Joe Sakic of Colorado became the 31st NHL player to reach 500 career goals when he scored in the second period against Vancouver.

But it was not enough to prevent his side going down 3-1.

Wednesday's NHL results:

NY Rangers 3-4 Chicago
Dallas 0-3 Los Angeles
Phoenix 4-2 Atlanta
Edmonton 4-1 Carolina
Colorado 1-3 Vancouver
