There were only two penalties in the game but Pittsburgh's lone award was called on defenseman Ian Moran for tripping and it proved costly. Olli Jokinen notched a goal and two assists for the Panthers, with Kristian Huselius and Viktor Kozlov also on the scoresheet. NHL scoring leader Mario Lemieux had tied the game for Pittsburgh with 8.8 seconds left in regulation time. Hossa hat-trick Florida were indebted to the form of net-minder Roberto Luongo, who made 26 saves in goal. In Dallas, Mike Modano scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Stars past Vancouver 4-0. Marty Turco made 26 saves for his second shut-out of the season to inflict a first away defeat of the season on the Canucks. Marian Hossa grabbed a hat-trick as the Ottawa Senators beat Colorado 5-2 in Denver, leaving the Avalanche still without a home win after six games.
