Tony David dreamt of victory

Mervyn played the best darts over the week and had a lot of tough matches, especially against Ray Barneveld, which was a great game.

He started the tournament cold and got better as the week went on, but in the final I was disappointed with Mr King to be honest.

He started badly, and he shouldn't be that way because he's used to those big situations.

Tony kept grinding away and Mervyn left it too late.

He had chances to hit the doubles in the first four sets, but he was all over the shop. As they say, darts is a funny old game.

When Mervyn started to come back, I thought 'hello, he's going to beat Tony', but Tony had a good cushion and to come back from that position is very, very difficult.

I had dinner with Tony last night and he was over the moon - he dreamt he was going to win it and he won it. And good luck to the lad - he deserves it.

Mervyn was pretty philosophical about the whole thing. He said, "Bob, I never got started and he beat me up, that's the way it goes."

But I think it's good for the game for someone outside the British Isles to win it. Raymond Barneveld won it, and now they love their darts in Holland.

It was a great week overall, with some great games and an electric atmosphere.

And it's a case of power of the people - they lift you and make you want to play darts.

But that's it for another year. Hopefully I'll be back on the oche next year, but it all depends on if I qualify.
