Monk missed several easy finishes

Right from the start, Monk did not look settled and had only himself to blame for failing to put away his double finishes after making big scores.

The first set was a prime example of how the tension of the occasion affected both players.

With the score at 2-2, King failed with three darts to make a double 10 only for Monk miss his easy double.

King subsequently claimed the set.

Monk fought back to take the second set - this time making a double 14 to edge out King 3-2.

But it was King's semi-final. He demoralised Monk by making a number of tons to take his average to near the 100 mark.

Monk, who beat John "Boy" Walton and Wayne Mardle on his way to the last four, only won one game during the fourth and fifth sets.

By the sixth set Monk's son Aaron had tears streaming down his face, and both he and his father knew that the dream was over as King finished with a double four.
