SATURDAY 5 JANUARY Ray Stubbs introduces highlights of the first days play, including Wayne Mardle's demolition of perennial qualifier Davy Richardson and Belgian Clarys against Andree Welge from Germany. SUNDAY 6 JANUARY Round one continued with former champion Ted 'The Count' Hankey coming through a difficult tie against Finland's Jarko Kormula and a rather despondent Wayne Jones unhappy with his victory over Tony Eccles. MONDAY 7 JANUARY The first round finished with a thriller for Australian Tony David, he came through against Ritcie Davies in a match with a score which belies its closeness. TUESDAY 8 JANUARY The second round came alive with defending champion and world number one, John Walton crashing out to local boy Colin Monk. WEDNESDAY 9 JANUARY The quater final line up is completed. Featuring an amazing comeback by Wayne Jones as he beat Ted "The Count" Hankey 3-2 after losing the first to set without winning a leg. THURSDAY 10 JANUARY The first night of quarter-final action saw Mervyn King defeat bookie's favourite Raymond Barneveld and Colin Monk overcome Wayne 'Hawaii 501' Mardle despite losing 12 consecutive legs when Mardle levelled the match at 4-4. FRIDAY 11 JANUARY Second seed Martin Adams eased into the semis after a convincing 5-1 win over Wayne Jones - in the other quarter-final Aussie Tony David performed the comeback of the championships with an epic 5-4 victory over Bob Taylor. SATURDAY 12 JANUARY Number four seed Mervyn King reached his first Embassy final after a convincing 5-1 victory over local favourite Colin Monk. Tony David kept his cool and continued with his fairytale championship when he became the first Australian to reach a World Darts final after an epic, nail biter of a contest against second seed Martin Adams. |
