Tanni Grey-Thompson put on another first-class performance to grab her sixth win in the women's wheelchair race at the London Marathon.

Despite giving birth just two months ago, the eight-time gold medallist comfortably crossed the finish line ahead of her nearest rivals.

Fellow Briton Dave Weir also put on an impressive performance to clinch the men's wheelchair race on Sunday.

Weir finished in a time of one hour 39.47 seconds to deny a heavily French field, while compatriot Tushar Patel came in second after an intensely fought-out battle with last year's champion Denis Lemeunier.

Tough call

Grey-Thompson admitted she had agonised over whether to take part in the race following the birth of daughter Carys three months ago.

"It was pretty hard this year," she told the BBC after crossing the finish line.

"I wasn't sure if I had made the right decision to take part in the race and I hit a few rough patches along the way.

"But I was really lucky because I had a couple of British guys stay with me and help me along.

"I tried to be really sensible in the first 10 miles and then just made sure that I finished it."

She said that Carys had not been affected by all the training her mother had been doing in the lead up to the race.

"She is not really bothered by much - she just lies there and doesn't really do anything."
