Flournoy is Eagles new boss
Chester Jets' Calvin Davis
Davis was a key figure for Chester last season
Newcastle Eagles have appointed Fabulous Flournoy as player-coach after the departure of Tony Garbelotto.

The 28-year-old New Yorker becomes the youngest coach in the British Basketball League and is looking forward to his new role.

He said: "I am very happy here. My new role is going to be a big challenge, but it's one that I'm very much looking forward to.

"In no way, shape or form am I going into this with my eyes closed.

"It's going to be a learning curve for myself, because I'll be looking at the bigger picture from now on."

In other BBL news, Chester Jets have persuaded last season's top scorer Calvin Davis to return to the club

The 6ft 8in American forward was the BBL's third-highest scorer and played a major part in Chester's clean sweep of the BBL Championship, Northern Conference, National Cup and BBL Trophy.

He is the third player from last year's squad to re-sign after John McCord and Pero Cameron committed themselves to another season at the Northgate Arena.

Chester coach Robbie Peers has also secured the services of Shawn Myers from Newcastle and Todd Cauthorn from Sheffield Sharks.

But Peers admits he is pleased to have Davis on board for another season.

"I'm thrilled to have Calvin back for another season, because I had been concerned that I wouldn't be able to keep hold of him," he said.

"The fact that he has decided to stay is great news for the Chester Jets."

As well as his scoring power, Davis was also ranked second in the BBL for rebounds and was also the league's best shot blocker with 2.34 blocks per game.

His signing means the Jets will have three of last season's BBL top four scorers for the new season.
