Mayobridge appeared to have done the hard work when restricting the Derry side to a one-point lead at the interval with a strong wind advantage to follow in the second period. But Ballinderry, boosted by superb displays from Enda Muldoon and wing-back Darren Crozier, produced a great second half to claim a deserved victory. It was something of a rough-house game which saw 13 bookings and the late dismissal of Mayobridge defender Francis Polland.
Two excellent saves from 'Bridge goalkeeper Sean Fetherstone restricted Ballinderry's interval lead to the minimum. Mayobridge looked to have the edge midway through the second period when they levelled the contest for the sixth time thanks to a Mickey Linden point. However, Ballinderry then used possession football to good effect to take a measure of control and two unanswered points from Declan Bateson and Gerard Cassidy proved crucial. Darren Conway's injury-time point made the game safe for Ballinderry. Enniskillen 0-12 2-4 St Gall's Enniskillen produced a tremendous comeback to subdue a brave challenge from St Gall's at Brewster Park. For most of the game, the Belfast club seemed on the way to a surprise victory. However, St Gall's appeared to run out of steam with Enniskillen, boosted by the second half breeze, hitting the final six scores of the match. Late substitute Raymond Curran emerged as the unlikely hero for the winners. The former Fermanagh county player, who has been out of football for two years because of injury, notched two late points for Enniskillen - including the lead score three minutes from time. Nibock goal Man-of-the-match Tom Brewster then made the game safe with an injury-time point. An Enniskillen win had looked unlikely for the opening 35 minutes of the contest. St Gall's came out of the traps quickly with Kevin Niblock lashing in a superb goal for the opening score of the match in the third minute. The goal helped the Belfast club to a 1-3 to 0-2 interval lead. Things looked even better for Gall's a minute after the re-start when Darren O'Hare struck a second goal for the visitors. However, St Gall's only managed one more point as Enniskillen produced a stirring fightback. Gowna 0-11 1-7 Clontibret Like Enniskillen, Gowna produced a tremendous recovery to edge out Clontibret at Breffni Park. A 17th minute Fergal Mone goal helped the Monaghan champions to a 1-5 to 0-4 interval lead and in truth, they should have been further ahead. However, Gowna, stirred by a half-time team talk from manager Eamon Coleman, were a different team in the second period and four Dermot McCabe points turned the contest on its head. Gowna hit six points without reply midway through the second half and McCabe's 57th minute score put the Cavan club ahead for the first time. Gerard Pierson notched another point to put Gowna two ahead and Dessie Mone's injury-time free was too late for Clontibret. AIB Ulster Club Hurling Final (1500 GMT) |
