Tyrone bosses get backing
Eugene McKenna and Art McRory are in their second spell as Tyrone joint-managers
Eugene McKenna and Art McRory will carry on

Art McCrory and Eugene McKenna have been reappointed joint-managers of the Tyrone senior football team for another year.

However, although they were backed by a majority of county committee members on Tuesday night, it is understood the vote was not unanimous.

There had been calls for Tyrone to ditch the two-man tactic and look outside the county for a new manager to take sole charge.

But most members believed McCrory and McKenna had done a good job and deserved another crack at bringing a first All-Ireland Championship to the Red Hand County.

Strong panel

There had been criticism following the surprise All-Ireland qualifying round defeat to Sligo in July.

But the Tyrone managers believe they still have one of the strongest panels in Ireland and can challenge seriously for the Sam Maguire trophy in 2003.

McCrory and McKenna led Tyrone to the 2001 Ulster title and followed that success with the National League in 2002.

But they were beaten by neighbours Armagh in the Ulster Championship, before the 1-14 to 0-12 defeat against Sligo.

  • Mick Condon has been appointed as manager of Carlow, in succession to Pat Roe.
