The Belfast-born fighter was granted his licence after the British Boxing Board of Control carefully assessed neurological reports to satisfy themselves that he was fit to box. "I am delighted that Wayne has been given a licence to box in Britain and never doubted that he would not get it," said McCullough's promoter Frank Warren. "As I stated before, I would not have got involved with Wayne if I had any doubts that he was at greater risk than any other fighter.
"I will now be looking to feature him in August when he will make his debut under the Sports Network banner and we have some big plans for him in the future." The former world champion has been battling with the British Board for to get permission to box again in Britain following the detection of a cyst near his brain in November 2000. He has since been cleared in the United States and made a winning return to the ring earlier this year having been licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. | See also: 03 May 02 | Boxing 25 Mar 02 | Boxing 13 Jan 02 | Boxing Top N Ireland stories now: Links to more N Ireland stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
