Brazil's Cristiano da Matta romped to his second win of the season Championship Auto Racing Teams (Cart) Grand Prix of Monterey Shell 300 at Laguna Seca Raceway.

Driving a Newman-Haas Racing Lola-Toyota, Da Matta defeated team-mate and compatriot Christian Fittipaldi by 19.087 seconds.

Da Matta, who only trailed during pitstops, scored 22 of a possible 23 points this weekend and surpassed Mexico's Michel Jourdain jnr as the overall points leader, 51-46.

Sweden's Kenny Brack finished third, while Brazilian Bruno Junqueira and Canadian Patrick Carpentier completed the top five.

The top-three finishers were the only drivers to lead in the race.

Rookie Townsend Bell finished seventh for his first points of the season.

But Bell was fortunate to make it to the end of the race after he was involved in a first-lap accident that eliminated Scotland's Dario Franchitti and Mexico's Adrian Fernandez.

Rookie Scott Dixon, Bell, Jimmy Vasser, Jourdain and Alex Tagliani completed the top ten finishers.
