Thailand's Jaidee fired a five-under-par 67 on Friday to top the leaderboard after two rounds in the southern city of Dongguan. British pair Montgomerie and Westwood were three shots back with two-round totals of 138. Montgomerie, who tied last weekend's Volvo Masters with Bernhard Langer, birdied three of the last five holes for a four-under 68. America's John Daly missed the cut in what the event's organisers claim is China's first $1m golf tournament. Daly had played reasonably well until he shot a nasty 10 on the par-five 14th after finding water three times. The two-time major winner carded an 80 to miss the cut, set at 4-over, by two strokes.
Thongchai, 33, winner of the 2001 Davidoff Tour Order of Merit title, had complained of fatigue after playing 35 tournaments this year. "I have played too much golf this year, but after I saw my coach last week in Thailand I am playing a lot better," he said. Also three shots behind the Thai were American Bob May and South Africa's Hendrik Buhrmann, who both carded 67s, and Korean first-round leader Ted Oh (71). | See also: 10 Nov 02 | Golf Top Golf stories now: Links to more Golf stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
