'Rio' banned by Leeds

The return of Rio Ferdinand to Elland Road draws ever closer - and Mark Viduka for one is not singing from the rooftops.

While Ferdinand is sure to run a gauntlet of hate when he turns out for Manchester United on Saturday, Viduka's punishment has been even more severe.

The fun-loving Aussie striker loves nothing more than belting out his favourite 1980s numbers in training, but this week he has been banned from singing his all-time favourite.

Rio Ferdinand
I don't need this pressure on

You guessed it - Duran Duran's Rio.

Viduka, 26, admits he is more than a little peeved by the whole affair.

"I like 80s songs - I am a New Romantic," he confessed - without a hint of shame.

"Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran - I like all their songs, especially Rio, although obviously I haven't been able sing that around the training ground this week."

So what will the '80s alternatives be come Saturday?

Worrying

Viduka might serenade Ferdinand with Don't Stand So Close To Me or A Town Called Malice.

Rio will be torn between Don't You Want Me and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, while Juan Veron will be wondering Should I Stay Or Should I Go after being told to Stand And Deliver.

The teams will run out to Two Tribes and if Ruud van Nistelrooy (This Old Horse) doesn't get any joy, he's bound to tell his team-mates I'll Tumble For Ya.

Human League
Don't you want me baby?

Songs aside, the most worrying thing to come out of this whole sorry episode is the admission that Mark Viduka is a New Romantic.

It's surely only a matter of time before he turns up for training in full make-up and a lacquered barnet.

David Beckham seems to get away with it week in week out, but he's got a distinct advantage over his Leeds rival.

If his mane goes floppy at half-time, he can always borrow the boss' hairdryer.
