| Friday, 7 June, 2002, 19:58 GMT 20:58 UK Man City deny Foe deal ![]() Foe helped Lyon win the French title Manchester City have denied reports linking them with a loan signing of Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe. French club Lyon announced on their website that a deal had been agreed with City for a one-year loan with a view to a permanent move. But a statement on City's own website read: "Reports from France, where the midfielder plays his domestic football with Lyon, claimed a deal had been done that would see the former West Ham man move to Manchester on loan. "City though have dampened the speculation by confirming to www.mcfc.co.uk that no deal has been done with the player, currently at the World Cup, or his club. "Foe has been one of a number of players linked with a move to Maine Road, and although the player has made favourable noises towards returning to the Premiership, City stress no deal has yet been reached." A Lyon spokesman had earlier said: "Foe should sign a contract in the next few days. "An agreement between the two clubs was found and the Cameroon player should make the decision soon." Foe would be Keegan's sixth new recruit this summer, following the signings of Nicolas Anelka, Sylvain Distin, Vicente Vuoso, Mikkel Bischoff and Tyrone Loran. Keegan also clinched the signing of former Aston Villa and Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel before the end of last season. However, he looks to have completed his spending should Foe arrive. When Anelka completed his move on Thursday, Keegan said: "I am very happy with the way things have gone. "I expect to make one more signing before the start of the season." Foe helped Lyon to the title last season after an 18-month spell in England with West Ham. Before moving to Upton Park he spent five years with Lens, where he also picked up a championship winners' medal. |
