City complete Anelka deal
Nicolas Anelka
Anelka becomes City's sixth forward
Manchester City have completed the 12m signing of French striker Nicolas Anelka from Paris St Germain.

"We have made a number of signings this summer but Sylvain Distin and Anelka are the two I am really excited about," City boss Kevin Keegan told the club's official website.

"Whatever you say about Nicolas Anelka, his goalscoring record was tremendous at Arsenal.

"I don't think you'll find too many people at Arsenal saying he did a bad job for them.

"Real Madrid didn't work out for him, but he still scored goals at PSG and I know people are amazed that Liverpool didn't grab him when they could.

"We just jumped in straight away and we were very keen to have him.

"There's a risk in signing any player, but what we try and do is minimise those risks.

It is understood Anelka has penned a five-year deal with City.

Keegan also confirmed Anelka would be his first choice forward in the Premier League.

Alain Toure has moved in the opposite direction to Paris St Germain.

Anelka won the double with Arsenal in 1998 before moving to Real Madrid.

He fell out with the Spanish outfit and moved to PSG in 2000 before being loaned to Liverpool last December.

The Anfield side had an option to sign the 20-year-old but decided not to exercise it.

City also confirmed that 20-year-old Argentine striker Vicente Vuouso had completed a move to the club.

City now have six strikers on their books, Anelka and Vuoso joining Paulo Wanchope, Darren Huckerby and Jon Macken.
