Anfield legend Rush is the latest addition to Liverpool's coaching staff after being brought in by Houllier to inspire the Reds' misfiring strikeforce. His work reaped almost immediate dividends when Emile Heskey scored only his second Premiership goal of the season in Saturday's 1-0 victory at Southampton. Rush believes that win was enough to convince Houllier he does not need to strengthen - even though Liverpool are still only sixth in the table. "Liverpool will not bring in new players," said the ex-Reds, Juventus and Wales centre-forward. "I think the squad is capable enough of being successful. We have very young players and those players are going to get even better, so I don't think Liverpool will go into the transfer market. "I think Gerard's really happy with what we've got." Saturday's triumph at St Mary's was Liverpool's first win in 12 league games but Rush believes the poor run was merely down to a lack of belief. "Before the game the whole team was short of confidence, not just the strikers," said Rush. "I think since the Southampton game the team are feeling a lot better." |
