Dennis Wise has been sacked by Leicester as a result of his alleged assault on team-mate Callum Davidson during the club's pre-season tour of Finland.

The former Chelsea skipper has had the remaining two years of his contract terminated by the Foxes for what they regarded as serious misconduct.

Wise had already been suspended by City after the incident in the team hotel which left Davidson with a a double fracture of his cheekbone.

Leicester had taken the decision at a board meeting on Wednesday to dispense of Wise's services after listening to the recommendations of chairman Martin George.

A club statement said: "The board have given Dennis Wise notice of termination in accordance with his contract.

"This decision has been taken following a proper investigation of an incident which occurred on 18 July at the club's training camp in Finland.

"Mr Wise, who attended a disciplinary hearing chaired by football club chairman Martin George on Friday, 26 July, was found to have committed an act of serious misconduct."

Adams opted for a no-nonsense approach

Wise was sent home immediately by City manager Micky Adams from Scandinavia and told to stay away from the club's new Walkers Stadium and training ground.

It was also clear from an early juncture that the no-nonsense George was looking to take a tough stance against Wise.

But City have been at pains to try and leave no stone unturned in ensuring they carried out the procedure in a correct manner.

Wise's legal threat

After an initial meeting between George and Adams, the club conducted an internal inquiry last Friday which Wise attended along with his legal representative and a PFA observer.

Then came the board meeting 48 hours ago before Wise and his representatives were advised of the action taken against him.

City are bracing themselves for a possible legal fight with Wise over the monies available to him over the remaining 24 months of his contract.

Wise had already been made available on a free transfer before the incident in Finland because of the club's need to cost cut after their relegation from the Premiership.

Bobby Gould, who managed Wise at Wimbledon, said the diminutive midfielder had always had an "edge" to his character - but that he would still buy him today if he was a manager.

He said: "He has to pick himself up and dust himself off.

"He made himself into a top-class player - he was always looking for the ball but there was that edge, and unfortunately that's what has cost him."
