Marlet, training with France ahead of Wednesday's friendly against the Czech Republic, said the atmosphere at the club was "not great". He added that he was glad of the chance to play for France and take a break from Loftus Road. "I'm going to be with Fulham until the end of the season," he told a news conference at France's training camp outside Paris.
"But obviously if Tigana leaves a lot of French players are going to follow him." Tigana joined Fulham in 2000, but he is yet to win a major trophy, and the club are currently 15th in the Premiership. But Marlet said the French players at the club, who include Sylvain Legwinski and Steed Malbranque alongside himself, had much respect for the former French international. "I think our future is linked to his (Tigana's) own," added Marlet. "Things are not going too well there at the moment. The atmosphere is not great and the situation is not that easy. "The staff and the players don't know much about their future." Marlet believes entering the Intertoto Cup is the reason for the team's poor run of results. "The Intertoto Cup pumped a lot of our energy, we decided to play it and suffer the consequences later but now we are paying for all our efforts," he said. "After a good start to the season many players got injured." Marlet said he was hoping to make himself a regular in the French first team after impressing coach Jacques Santini. "Coming here to Clairefontaine (for the training camp) is a relief for me," added Marlet. "Being called up for an international match helps me to forget about what is going on at the club", Marlet said. "I can take a breath. The atmosphere is completely different." |
