| Monday, 17 February, 2003, 11:53 GMT Burley launches into Gregory
Burley claims that Derby's poor showing is due to Gregory allowing personal reasons to affect his judgement in football matters. Although Burley has been plagued by injury problems since Gregory's arrival at Pride Park, he claims he is being frozen out now he is fully fit. Communications between Burley and Gregory have now completely broken down, and the Sottish internatonal claims he has become victim of a personal vendetta. Burley said: "I don't speak to John Gregory now.
"I have never had a good relationship with him, but now I wouldn't give him the time of day. I won't talk to him. "If the manager wanted me to play and came to ask me he would have to be quick because I would be walking past him in the corridor as he said it. "I had little respect for him when he started here and it has completely gone now," Gregory told the Daily Mirror. "I will play for Derby County FC, but I will not play for John Gregory."
Derby are currently wallowing in mid-table, and have been forced to sell the likes of Danny Higginbotham, Malcolm Christie and Chris Riggott to stave off their potentially damaging debts. Burley claims Derby's predicament is due to Gregory's personal feelings creeping into his team selection. Burley said: "Any blind man with a dog can see I'm being left out for personal reasons and not for football reasons. "I am getting fed up with it. If the manager does not want me here he should be man enough to come out and say it.
"I have not been paid for the past five months, that makes 10 months money they owe me and something has got to be sorted out soon. "Whether the best team is being picked is up to the management but our league position and results would suggest that is not the case." Burley also claims that Gregory's treatment of players is designed to bully them into leaving the club. The Scottish midfielder said: "The treatment some of the players have had this season has been a joke. "Not being allowed to park in the car park on match days, and having names taken off the back of the programme is ridiculous. |
