Gregory transfers grounded
Derby boss John Gregory
Gregory will not let players go for 'knockdown prices'
Derby County manager John Gregory has been told he has to sell before he is allowed to bring any new players into Pride Park.

Gregory cannot even sign former Middlesbrough midfielder Robbie Mustoe who has been training with the Rams and is a free agent.

Derby have been working with a firm of accountants on restructuring their finances following relegation with the club's overall debt in excess of 30m.

Gregory knows he has to sell at least one of his players within the next six weeks but he insists no-one will be leaving for knockdown prices.

I'm not going to...end up giving away one of our better players for less money than he's worth
John Gregory

Gregory has admitted he may have to sell goalkeeper Mart Poom, who is a target for Everton, but not for less than 6m.

He also said he was not fully aware of the club's financial situation when he took on the job of manager.

"I've inherited a problem - we just have to roll our sleeves up and get on with it," said the Derby boss.

"I'm just going to have to face these problems on a daily basis which means doing everything we can with the group of players I've got.

"But I know, without any question, that I have to sell a player within the next six weeks.

"But I'm not going to be press-ganged into it - I'm not going to be pushed into a corner where we end up giving away one of our better players for less money than he's worth."
