Rivaldo in AC Milan talks
Rivaldo
Rivaldo helped Brazil to the 2002 World Cup title
Rivaldo is in talks with AC Milan about a move to the Italian Serie A club.

"I can confirm that talks are taking place," said AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani. "I won't say anything more."

AC Milan were one of several club linked with signing the Brazilian who was released by Barcelona despite having a year to run on his contract.

Fellow Italians Lazio along with English sides Manchester United and Newcastle were keeping an eye on Rivaldo's situation.

Barcelona coach Louis van Gaal
Van Gaal's return has led to Rivaldo's exit

But AC Milan are the first to make a move for the 30-year-old whose departure from Barcelona was inevitable once Louis van Gaal returned as coach.

Rivaldo and Van Gaal had a falling out during Van Gaal's first spell as coach at the Nou Camp.

Rivaldo was put on the left of midfield by Van Gaal and demanded to be moved back into a central role.

The Brazilian's comments resulted in him watching two matches from the sidelines before apologising to get back in the team.

"Van Gaal is the main cause of my departure," Rivaldo told the Spanish press.

"I don't like Van Gaal and I am sure that he doesn't like me either."
