West Brom moved off the foot of the table with only their second away win in the Premiership - and ruined Robbie Fowler's Man City debut in the process.

With just one victory on their travels prior to their trip to Maine Road, the Baggies sent the home side spinning to defeat with goals from Neil Clement and Darren Moore.

Clement put the visitors in front with a header on 18 minutes only for team-mate Phil Gilchrist to put through his own net four minutes later.

But Moore grabbed a vital three points to help lift the Baggies, who had Jason Roberts sent off late on, above Sunderland and West Ham.

Fowler, a �6m capture from Leeds, was given a fantastic reception by Man City fans when his name was read out before kick-off.

But it was the visiting supporters who had most to shout about once the game started.

With just seven goals in 12 away games before the trip to Maine Road, there has been precious little for the Baggies faithful to celebrate on their travels.

But, after seeing an earlier header saved by the legs of City goalkeeper Carlo Nash, Clement put the Midlands strugglers in front on 18 minutes.

Jason Koumas was again the provider as the former Chelsea left-back beat Nash with a powerful, downward header that bounced into the roof of the net.

West Brom's joy was shortlived, with City drawing level just four minutes later.

Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foe was initially given with the goal after challenging for Kevin Horlock's whipped cross.

But Baggies defender Phil Gilchrist, who had been just behind Foe, was eventually credited with the home side's equaliser.

Fowler fired a shot just wide as City began to pick up the pace before Nicolas Anelka thought he had put Kevin Keegan's team in front 10 minutes before the break.

The Frenchman tapped the ball home after Russell Hoult had failed to hold onto a Fowler shot only for referee Neale Barry to rule that Fowler had been offside.

City took the game by the scruff of the neck after the break but could not find a way past Russell Hoult.

Fowler was denied twice by some good defending while a curling shot from Anelka was easily saved by the Baggies goalkeeper.

Then, on 71 minutes, Moore scrambled the ball home to put Gary Megson's men in sights of only their second away win of the season in the Premiership.

With nine minutes left, the visitors were reduced to 10 men when striker Roberts was sent off for violent conduct following a clash with David Sommeil.

But they held on to claim a rare win and move off the foot of the table.
